Our dedicated team of highly qualified flight medical crew have the expertise to escort clients on commercial airliner flights across the world for repatriation, to receive treatment overseas or, sometimes, for escorted holidays and ‘bucket list’ opportunities. We even have experience of transporting intensive care patients within the cabins of commercial airliners, even though they require multiple organ support.
Individuals from within our large team of flight-trained healthcare professionals accompany patients on commercial airliner flights. They assist clients who are immobile or require specialist care when being transported. This allows them to focus on the safety and physical and mental well-being of both the patient and his/her family during a potentially high-risk and stressful period.
To further ensure safe travel we secure the required medical clearances and will coordinate all ground and air transportation which includes any specialised medical equipment that may be required and to make sure the travel is as safe and comfortable as possible.
However, the care does not start here, it begins much earlier in the process. We closely monitor and assess the patient’s medical status from the very first contact and we will liaise with his/her current medical team and often the receiving team, too. Good communication and expert opinions allow us to fully develop a bespoke plan for the entire journey.
Towards the end of the journey, CLCA staff will remain with the patient until the final destination has been reached, be it a hospital or the patient’s home. Here we will help the patient and family to settle into the new environment and ensure that the patient is seen as the main priority. We then provide a detailed handover to the receiving medical team before a final check to see that the patient’s needs are being satisfied, before our return to base.
